New Delhi, July 9

The Uttar Pradesh Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the July 2 case has submitted a nearly 300-page report in the case to the government.

The report has reportedly held overcrowding as the main reason behind the stampede. The SIT recorded statements of 119 people have been included in the report.

Over 2 lakh people had arrived for the satsang, whereas the authorities had sought permission for nearly 80,000 people.

The report also includes statements from Hathras District Magistrate, Ashish Kumar, Superintendent of Police, Nipun Agarwal, Sub Divisional Magistrate, and police officials who were on duty on July 2.

Earlier, the Uttar Pradesh Judicial Commission team recorded statements of several eyewitnesses in the Hathras stampede case.

The police had booked godman Bhole Baba whose original name is Suraj Pal Singh, in the Hathras stampede case after 121 people died.  Baba had later released a video claiming that he was depressed over the Hathras stampede incident and asked the affected families to have faith in the judiciary.

The police have arrested seven persons including the main organizer of the event- Dev Prakash Madhukar.

While the godman remains absconding his counsel had claimed that some unidentified elements tried to distort the event.
