New Delhi, July 30
Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena announced financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh for the families of each of the three civil service aspirants who died after flooding in the basement of a coaching centre in Central Delhi's Old Rajinder Nagar.
LG Saxena visited the UPSC coaching hub of Old Rajinder Nagar and interacted with the students protesting over the incident.
During the meeting, the LG assured prompt disciplinary action against officials of Delhi Fire Services (DFS), police, and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) responsible for the incident within 24 hours.
The LG office informed that a joint task force of MCD and DFS, formed under the directions of the Delhi High Court following a fire incident at a coaching institute at Mukherjee Nagar earlier this year, will also conduct a survey of all the buildings in the Rajinder Nagar area.
The joint task force will seal all the basements and other illegal structures that are in violation of the building bylaws, the Master Plan Delhi (MPD) 2021, and the fire safety norms, officials added.
It will also undertake a similar audit in Mukherjee Nagar, Kalu Sarai, Neb Sarai, Ber Sarai, Vijay Nagar, Outram Line, Hudson Line, Gupta Colony, and other coaching hubs of the city and seal off all illegal basements and other such structures, the LG office further informed.
