When the woman refused, her mother-in-law allegedly attacked her with a blade

New Delhi, June 27

A woman from Agra has accused her husband and in-laws of torture and harassment, including being forced to establish physical relations with her mother-in-law.

The woman married Alok Upadhyay in Ghazipur district in 2022. Her mother-in-law pressured her for "physical relations." When she refused, her mother-in-law allegedly attacked her with a blade, causing five gashes on her arm that required stitches.

The report further alleges the woman's sister-in-law confiscated her clothes, forcing her to wear the same garments for a month while being confined to a room. She claimed she was also abused for dowry and physical abuse.

As per her complaint, the abuse reportedly escalated after the woman gave birth to a son in 2023. The husband allegedly questioned the child's legitimacy and physically assaulted her. Following the beating, she was thrown out of the house. Neighbours intervened, and she was allowed back into the house.

A few days later, the woman's father visited her, and she moved back to her maternal home in Agra. Both families also tried to resolve the issues however it ended up in a scuffle on June 7.

The police have registered a case and detained her in-laws for questioning.
