25 people were arrested in Karnataka's Davangere district for vandalising a police station and throwing stones at cops alleging a custodial death.
The arrested accused are residents of Channagiri and neighbouring towns.
The police informed that a mob entered the Channagiri police station and started pelting stones, alleging that a man named Adil, who had been called in for police questioning, had died inside the station.
As the news of the man's death spread, his relatives along with a large group of people went on a rampage, damaging police vehicles and hurling stones at the police station, alleging that he died in custody.
The resorted to a lathi charge. Several police personnel were injured in the attack and more than five police vehicles were damaged in the stone pelting by the mob.
As per the case details, Adil (30) was detained on May 24 for his alleged involvement in gambling activities in the district. The police claimed that Adil's death was due to low blood pressure. There were no injury marks on Adil’s body and that he had collapsed within five minutes of being inside the station.
His body has been sent for post mortem where the doctors will also video record the process.
The police have now handed over the case to Karnataka Crime Investigation Department (CID).
