31 Maoists, including 11 women were killed in an anti naxal operation in Chhattisgarh

Two security- DRG and STF constables persons were martyred during the operation

New Delhi, February 10

31 Maoists, including 11 women were killed in an encounter at Indravati National Park in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district. Two security persons were martyred during the operation. 

The security personnel killed were identified as District Reserve Guard (DRG) head constable Naresh Dhruv, a resident of Baloda Bazar district, and Special Task Force (STF) constable Vaasit Ravte, a resident of Balod district. Two other personnel, DRG constable Jaggu Kalmu and STF constable Gulab Mandavi, were injured.

They were part of an operation conducted by a joint team of DRG, STF and Bastar Fighters — all state-level forces specialising in anti-Maoist operations.

The police informed that the encounter took place inside the national park, located about 15 km from the Maharashtra border and 28 km from Bijapur’s Farsegarh, the nearest village. 

The officials informed that the the special operations began on February 8 after receiving information regarding the presence of Maoists in the national park. The intermittent firing between Maoists and security forces went on till evening of February 9. 

The forces seized weapons, including automatic rifles and a barrel grenade launcher as well as explosives used to make improvised explosive devices, were recovered from the encounter site.

IGP Bastar Range, Sundarraj P stated that two jawans who suffered injuries were evacuated and carried in an IAF helicopter to a hospital in Raipur for treatment. Their condition is said to be stable and they are out of danger.
