A SpiceJet employee was arrested after she slapped a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officer during an argument over security screening. The airline has accused the CISF officer of sexual harassment.
Anuradha Rani, a food supervisor with SpiceJet, was entering the airport along with other employees through the vehicle gate around 4 am when Assistant Sub Inspector Giriraj Prasad stopped them for not having valid permission to use the gate. He asked her to undergo screening at the nearby entrance for airline crew.
According to the CISF, there were no female cops around the screening area at that time. Giriraj Prasad called for female staff to come for the screening but by then there was an argument between him and Rani. This continued even after the female staff arrived on the scene and Rani slapped Prasad.
However, the airline issued a statement, “While escorting a catering vehicle at the steel gate, our female security staff member, who had a valid airport entry pass issued by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), India’s civil aviation security regulator, was subjected to inappropriate and unacceptable language by the CISF personnel, including asking her to come and meet him after his duty hours at his home.”
The airline stated that they had filed a complaint for immediate legal action against the alleged sexual harassment of their female employee. The CISF stated that the woman was arrested followed by legal proceedings.
