New Delhi, January 20
The Delhi Police have arrested a man in Northwest Delhi who murdered his girlfriend and showed it as suicide.
The 23-year-old victim was found with dupatta around her neck hanging from the ceiling fan of her room in Dhobi Ghat area.
The police were notified with call at Bharat Nagar police station saying that the niece of the complainant had killed herself in her first-floor jhuggi in Om Nagar.
The girl was identified as Saniya, 23 while accused was identified as Shakir, 26.
The police found a dupatta was tied around her, while another dupatta was attached to the ceiling fan. Thr police doubted suicide.
The forensic science lab team noted that marks on her neck seemed to be from strangulation by hand rather than the dupatta. He neighbours told the police they had seen Shakir exit the house on the same day from the roof.
DCP (Northwest) Bhisham Singh stated that Shakir confessed that Saniya had wanted to leave him for the last three months. He thought it was because she was cheating on him. He then planned to murder her and make it look like a suicide. He tried to hang her body from the fan after strangling her using two dupattas, as one was not of adequate size. But he couldn’t do it. So he fled, leaving the dupatta hanging from the fan.
