The vigilant Jawans of Border Outpost Charbhadra Base of 146th Battalion under BSF South Bengal Frontier, acting on a information, foiled the gold smuggling attempt on the India-Bangladesh border in Murshidabad district of West Bengal and arrested a smuggler with 3 gold biscuits and 1 gold coin.
The officials added that when this smuggler was trying to smuggle this gold from Bangladesh to India. The seized gold weighs 467 grams and the estimated value is Rs 36.73 lakh.
The jawaans of Border Outpost Charbhadra Forward received information related to gold smuggling. Acting on the information received, the BSF jawans laid a special ambush at the suspicious place. Thr Ambush party observed suspicious movements of 01 person cutting grass. Special Ambush party immediately reached the spot. On interrogation and thorough search, 03 gold biscuits and 1 gold coin were recovered from the suspect.
The apprehended person and the seized gold were brought to BOP Charbhadra Base for further investigation. On interrogation, the suspect disclosed that he hails from village Ghospada in Murshidabad district. He had come to take the gold hidden in his field. After taking the gold, he was to hand it over to some unknown persons at Char Uday Nagar Colony and Farzipada but BSF caught him red handed while taking out the gold.
The arrested person and the seized gold have been handed over to Customs Department Jalangi for further legal action.
