Delhi Police sets up its own disaster response force DPDRF

DPDRF will comprise of 270 personnel ranging from constables to sub-inspectors, who are being given training for six weeks by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF)

New Delhi, May 10

The Delhi Police has set up a dedicated unit of personnel to combat natural disasters, man-made crises, and emergency situations in the Capital. Named as Police Disaster Response Force (DPDRF), comprises it has been aimed to deal with counter disaster response quickly. 

DPDRF will comprise of 270 personnel ranging from constables to sub-inspectors, who are being given training for six weeks by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). 150 personnel have already been trained at NDRF’s Ghaziabad training centre.

The personnel are being specially trained to rescue people from fires, building collapses, floods, or any other natural calamity, officials added. 

The personnel have undergone six weeks of comprehensive training in practical knowledge, learnt the procedures, and understood the basic concepts of their role in disaster response. They were also trained in responding to chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) incidents.
