CBI arrests a middleman accused in bribery case involving Inspector of CGST Assam

The accused Inspector demanded bribe amount of Rs. 2 lakhs on July 12 and directed the complainant to handover the second installment of Rs.3 lakhs to accused private person

New Delhi, July 25

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a middleman  while accepting a bribe of Rs three lakhs on behalf of accused Inspector, CGST Assam.

The CBI registered a case against accused Inspector, CGST, Tezpur and a private person (middleman) of Balipara, Assam on allegations that accused demanded undue advantage of Rs. 5 lakhs from the complainant for smooth functioning of his business of hardware store. 

It was also alleged in the complaint that accused compelled him to pay part of demanded bribe amount of Rs. 2 lakhs on July 12 The Inspector directed the complainant to handover the second installment of Rs.3 lakhs undue advantage to accused private person (middlemen).

The CBI then laid a trap and caught middleman red-handed while accepting Rs. 3 lakhs from the complainant on behalf of accused Inspector. 

The agency also conducted searches at the premises of accused at Balipara and Tezpur in Assam and at Jaipur and Churu in Rajasthan which led to recovery of unexplained cash amount of Rs. 9 lakhs from the premises of accused middleman at Balipara and other incriminating documents.
