The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an a senior research officer of TRAI for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs. one lakh from the complainant.
The CBI registered a case against accused on allegations that accused demanded bribe of Rs. 1 Lakh from the complainant who is a licence holder of Min of I&B, Govt of India for running cable services in Distt. Sirmaur (HP) and also on behalf of other 5 licence holder cable operators of HP for showing favour in assessing the regulatory documents i.e. Quarterly Performance Monitoring Reports already submitted and those to be submitted in future by the said cable operators of HP and for not to recommend cancellation of their licenses to Min of I&B, Govt of India.
It is also alleged that as per the TRAI guidelines the said cable operators are required to submit their Quarterly Performance Monitoring to the said accused who after assessment or perusal accepts or recommend cancellation of their licenses if some discrepancies are found, CBI added.
The agency then laid a trap and caught aforesaid accused red handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. one lakh in his Delhi office at Naroji Nagar from the complainant.
The CBI also conducted searches at residential and official premises of the accused at Greater Noida and New Delhi which led to recovery of incriminating documents.
