CBI arrests two officials of CGST in Himachal Pradesh for accepting bribe

The duo had sought bribe for registration of GST of the complainant's company in Solan of HP

New Delhi, July 15

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Superintendent and an Inspector of Central Goods & Services Tax (CGST), Solan in Himachal Pradesh in a case related to demand and accepting of bribe. 

A case was registered by CBI under the newly introduced Bhartiya Nayaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023 r/w section 7 of The Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (As amended in July, 2018) against Inspector and Tax Assistant (later on identified as Supdt.). 

In this case, it was alleged that accused demanded a bribe of Rs.12,000/- from the complainant through the friend of complainant for processing and approval of CGST Registration number of his firm. The accused asked complainant to visit their office for the said purpose, failing which, his CGST Registration would be rejected. During the complainant’s visit to the said CGST office, accused reduced bribe amount and agreed to accept Rs.8,000/- for the official act and asked the complainant to come to their office in Solan alongwith the said undue advantage/bribe.

The CBI laid a trap and accused Inspector was caught red handed while accepting bribe of Rs. 8000/- from the complainant in criminal conspiracy with other accused whose correct identity was revealed as Superintendent after trap.

The agency also conducted searches at the official and residential premises of accused at Solan (HP), Mohali (Punjab) and Una in HP and seized some incriminating documents.
