New Delhi, July 5

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested two Delhi Police personnel from Paharganj police station for allegedly receiving a bribe of Rs 2 lakh.

The duo have been identified as Sub-Inspector Ravi and Head Constable Rajender Meel. The accused had demanded and accepted bribe of Rs 2 lakh for not acting against the illegal borewell of the complainant and not stopping construction work on his plot.

The CBI had received a complaint from one Kamaldeep Bansal, a resident of Govindpuri area stating that he has an ancestral plot in Chuna Mandi area of Pahar Ganj, which has an old borewell and currently undergoing some renovation.  On June 30, he received a call from SI Ravi and was asked to visit police station to meet him. He went to the police station on July 3 where he met him. He initially threatened to take action regarding the illegal borewell in the plot and asked him to stop the ongoing construction work.

The CBI laid a trap and asked him to meet with the SI Ravi after hiding a recorder. Bansal went to meet him in the police station where he requested to reduce the bribe amount. During negotiations, the policemen reduced the bribe to Rs 2.50 lakh on repeated requests of Bansal. He also requested them to arrange a meeting with SHO Tomar, but both the now arrested police personnel asked him to meet him on his own or through any of his references. Heed constable Meel then asked him to come on July 4 around 11 am and he will give Bansal the details about the meeting with SHO Tomar in person.
