CBI books Chandigarh police couple for disproportionate assets worth over Rs. 1.85 crores

The Central Buteau of Investigation (CBI) has booked a police couple from Chandigarh for amassing assets over Rs. 1.85 crores.
The police officials Harinder Singh Sekhon and Paramjit Kaur Sekhon are under the CBI lens.
Harinder Singh Sekhon joined the Chandigarh Police as an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) in October 1997. He was promoted to sub-inspector (SI) rank in 2005 and inspector rank in 2015. Currently, he is posted in the security wing. Inspector Paramjit Kaur Sekhon is a batch mate of Harinder Singh Sekhon. She is posted in the UT traffic police.
The investigation showed that the assets of the couple rose from Rs 13.22 lakh to Rs 1.85 crore between 2017 and 2021.
The CBI FIR states that the couple bought a 20 per cent share in a big house in Chandigarh’s Sector 36 valued at Rs 1.28 crore, a residential plot in Mullanpur Garibdass New Chandigarh valued at Rs 40.56 lakh, jewellery worth Rs 4,50,000, and household articles valued at Rs 5 lakh, among others, during this period.
It also mentioned that Inspector Harinder Singh Sekhon allocated Rs 10 lakh equivalent to at least 1/3rd of his gross salary of Rs 50 lakh earned between 2017 and 2021 for kitchen accessories at his residence in Sector-36.
The couple’s acknowledged sources of income between 2017 and 2021 included a Rs 50 lakh salary, Rs 24.56 lakh received via cheque from Rajdip Company Infrastructure, a Rs 65 lakh home loan in Harinder Sekhon’s name, a Rs 15 lakh transfer from SBI to Paramjit Kaur Sekhon’s HDFC bank account, Rs 7 lakh received through two unidentified cheques in Harinder Sekhon’s account, and Rs 16.44 lakh credited from the Accountant General, among others, the FIR further stated.
The couple’s expenditure amounting to Rs 1.58 crore, including Rs 41.42 lakh given to various individuals awaiting verification through cheques, Rs 14.14 lakh in EMIs paid to various loan accounts, Rs 17.50 lakh disbursed to two men identified as Ashwani Nagpal and Sanjeev Sambher, and repayments of Rs 11 lakh to SBI Home Loan from Paramjit Kaur Sekhon’s account, as per CBI.
