Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue collapse- Maharashtra Police arrests sculptor Jaydeep Apte

The 35-feet-tall statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had collapsed on August 26 that was inaugurated hardly nine months back by PM Narendra Modi.

Following the probe in the statue collapse of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Thane district, the poliice have arrested the sculptor Jaydeep Apte

The 35-feet-tall statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had collapsed on August 26 that was inaugurated hardly nine months back by PM Narendra Modi. Apte was on the run after the incident. 

During the probe, the police found out that Apte had no prior experience of constructing large statues but had taken up the project to contruct this statue at Rajkot Fort in Sindhudurg's Malvan. 

The collapse of the statue of the Maratha state's iconic founder sparked a significant political controversy . The Maharashtra Police filed an FIR against Apte and structural consultant Chetan Patil under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Patil was arrested on August 31, while a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against Apte.

The police were searching for Apta in various locations, including Mumbai, Thane, and Kolhapur. A police unit previously visited his residence in Kalyan, Thane district, but found it locked.
