New Delhi, October 10
A Dalit farmer allegedly died by suicide at his home in a Kasganj village a day after he was “removed” from Ram Lila programme.
The farmer was identified as Ramesh (47) who, was made to leave the Ram Lila event after spectators complained that he was “near the stage". Some also alleged that he was drunk.
The police however found no suicide note near his body.
After his death, residents protested demanding action against the “police personnel responsible” for removing him from the Ram Lila event. They alleged that Ramesh took the extreme step as he was “distressed” over his “forced removal”.
The protest was called off after senior police officers and village elders intervened.
The postmortem report confirmed death by hanging, with no injuries on body. The police stated that the reason behind his suicide is being probed.
The UP Police also shunted out two constables to Police Lines.
