New Delhi, October 1

The Delhi Police arrested a man for allegedly trying to extorting a businessman using gangster Hashim Baba’s name at the behest of a convicted drug trafficker.

The accused has been identified as Mohsin Khan (30)

The police stated that a Southeast Delhi resident running a dry fruit business in Chandni Chowk received a threatening call and WhatsApp messages during the intervening nights of September 8 and 9. The businessman claimed that the caller identified himself as Hashim aka Baba and claimed to be calling from Tihar Jail and demanded $20,000 as extortion from him.

After the businessman blocked the initial number, the accused contacted him again through an international number, reiterating the extortion demand and threatening him with severe consequences, police added.

The police tracked down Mohsin Khan from his residence in Hauz Rani and arrested him.

DCP (Southeast), Rajesh Deo stated that during questioning he claimed he was working on instructions of Rehmatullah, an Afghan national who is a convicted drug trafficker lodged in Tihar Jail. Rehmatullah was earlier convicted under the NDPS Act by Crime Branch.
