New Delhi, May 1
The Delhi Police cracked whip on car jackers and vehicle thefts in Rohini district in a special operation in Rohini and arrested several accused.
The Anti Auto Theft Squad (AATS) officials in Rohini district arrested two alleged car thieves, Vinod Kumar (45) and Pintu (43), and recovered a stolen Honda City, two Ertigas and one Wagon-R from their possession.
DCP (Rohini) Guriqbal Singh Sidhu stated that the duo are the kingpins of a gang that has a pan-India presence and the stolen cars would be sold in Bihar. They changed the number plates of the stolen cars after crossing borders and use fake plates from each state as the vehicles were transported by road to avoid police detection.
In similar case, police team arrested an alleged car thief named Rohit on April 19. The police traced a stolen Hyundai Creta and arrested the suspect in Vikaspuri. His interrogation allegedly led to the recovery of two more stolen Maruti Brezzas. Subsequently, on April 28, the Anti-Snatching Cell in Rohini received a tip-off about an alleged car thief in Rithala, which led to the arrest of Manish (25) along with the recovery of a stolen Maruti Brezza. Upon interrogation, Manish allegedly disclosed information leading to the recovery of another stolen Hyundai Creta, which had been stolen from Mangolpuri.
The accused was also a part of the same gang led by Vinod and Pintu. The gangs hacked the key fob machinery of the cars to steal them. Members of these two gangs and other stolen cars are being tracked down, DCP Sidhu added.
