In order to prevent the youth of underprivileged sections of the society from participating in criminal activities, the Delhi Police have been organizing YUVA program over the years. In YUVA, youths have been provided various types of jobs.
Delhi Police along with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Tourism & Hospitality Skill Council (THSC) held a Job Fair on December 10th, 2017 for Hospitality Sector, for the youth selected under YUVA initiative.e, at Kirti Nagar Police Station. The event was chaired by Sanjay Baniwal, Special Commissioner of Police (Women security & Modernisation), while Dr.Sonali Sinha, COO, Tourism and Hospitality Skill Council (THSC) and Ankur Singh Chauhan (Director and Head-Delhi State), CII brought employers from the industry.
The Job Fair saw brands like Burger King, Sodexo, Compass, Lemon Tree and Sarovar Hotels come out in full support of the initiative. A total of 102 job offers were made to about 80 candidates and some candidates bagged more than one offer.
Under Yuva, Initiative Delhi Police reaches out to Capital's youth from economically weaker sections and provide them skill training under different trades. The idea was to channelize the energy of young adults and children from the underprivileged sections of the society to make them productive members of the society and to prevent them from moving towards crime and drugs at an early age. This initiative had been launched by Delhi Police, and on 29th of August 2017, CII also collaborated in it, in the presence of the Hon’ble Home Minister of India and Lieutenant Governor of Delhi at an event in Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
Sanjay Baniwal (Spl.CP, Delhi), while addressing the gathering of trained candidates, their trainers, police personnel and employers, congratulated and applauded the efforts of all involved in making this day a reality. He said that life often doesn’t give second chances and we are blessed today to have the opportunity and a chance to better our lives. He encouraged the candidates appearing for interviews with his own life journey and wished them the very best. He also said that all candidates must strive for a job and not constrain themselves due to location or travel issues.
Dr.Sonali Sinha (COO, THSC), while addressing the gathering said that Tourism and Hospitality Industry is a growing sector and this is a labour intensive sector. She emphasised that the sector holds many facets and the candidates appearing for the Job Fair will certainly enjoy working in it. The event was heartwarming and gave a fresh start to many youths with hope for a brighter future.
