Delhi Police Special Cell held a wrestler from Haryana, an associate of wrestler of Sushil Kumar

The Delhi Police Special Cell held an absconding accused, associate of wrestler of Sushil Kumar.
The accused was identified as Surjeet Grewal from Bamla in Bhiwani, Haryana who was wanted in a murder case of wrestler Sagar Rana.
The special cell officials stated that the accused has narrated the facts that led to the murder of Sagar Dhankad.
DCP Special Cell Sanjeev Yadav stated Surjeet Grewal is a close associate of wrestler Sushil Kumar.
As per the case details, on the intervening night of May 4-5, a call was made at Model Town police station regarding firing incident in Chhatrasal Stadium was received at PS Model Town. When the police reached there, they had learnt a spat had taken place allegedly between Sushil Kumar, Ajay, Prince, Sonu, Sagar, Amit and others in the parking area. The injured persons namely Sagar, Amit Kumar and Sonu were shifted to BJRM Hospital for treatment and later on Sagar Dhankhad died during treatment. In this case wrestler Sushil Kumar, Prince Dalal and others were arrested but six accused persons namely Surjeet Grewal, Praveen Dabas, Praveen alias Choti, Joginder alias Kala, Rahul Dhanda and Anil Dhiman absconded in the said case.
During his interrogation, Surjeet Grewal disclosed that Sushil Kumar first scolded and beat up Vikas alias Doli, Arvind alias Brahamchari abd Ravinder alias Bhinda during the assembly at Chhatarsal Stadium. Thereafter, Sushil left and came again in the Stadium along with Prince Dalal, Sushil Kumar, Sunil alias Ajay armed and other associates. Sushil along with other associates then went to Shalimar Bagh where they dragged Amit alias Khagad and Ravinder alias Bhinda forcibly in their cars and came back to Stadium.
In the stadium, Sushil Kumar and other associates including Surjeet beat them up. After this they went to Model Town and dragged Sonu Mahal, Sagar Dhankar & Bhagat Singh alias Bhagta forcibly in their cars and again came back to stadium. In stadium victims were beaten black and blue with sticks and batons to settle scores. Sagar Dhankhar, Amit and Sonu Mahaal sustained severe injuries in this brawl.
Dhankad had succumbed to his injuries on May 5.
The accused was booked under sections 302, 308, 325, 323, 341, 506, 188, 269and 120B IPC and 25 & 27 Arms Act.
Sushil Kumar is a renowned wrestler of international level and he had won more than 10 medals in wrestling in World Championship, Olympics, Commonwealth, Asian Games etc.
Who Is Surjeet Grewal?
Surjeet Grewal is a resident of Bamla village in Bhiwani, Haryana and belongs to a middle-class family. His father and brother are farmers and mother is a housewife. He has started wrestling in the year 2007 at Akhada in Dadri, Haryana and came to Chhatarsal Stadium in the year 2012 for further training of wrestling. He used to stay in Chhatarsal Stadium with other wrestlers. During his stay at Chhatrasal Stadium, Surjeet came close to Sushil Kumar.
He passed his 10th & 12th from open school. He has represented Delhi at National Level and won last Gold Medal in 2018 under 65 Kg Category. He has represented India at World Wrestling Championship in the year 2012, 2014 and 2018. He has participated in Pro Wrestling League also. He had been to National’s wrestling in the year 2020.
