New Delhi, August 30
In an attempt to encourage public participation in traffic management, the Traffic Sentinel mobile application will be re-launched in Delhi, as part of which, people can report traffic and parking violations.
The application will be operational from September 1 under the new name 'Traffic Prahari'.
Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena directed the traffic police to take steps to enhance public participation in traffic management.
The Traffic Sentinel Scheme (TSS) encourages people to act as the eyes and ears of the Delhi Traffic Police. With the app's re-launch, a new monthly rewards system will be introduced, replacing the previous annual rewards.
The top four performers each month will receive prizes of Rs 50,000, Rs 25,000, Rs 15,000, and Rs 10,000, with the first awards distributed in early October based on reports from September.
LG Saxena highlighted the scheme's potential to involve citizens in traffic management, provide additional income, and promote governance participation. He also directed an upgrade of the app with enhanced features for more effective use.
The app, available on the Google Play Store and iOS App Store, requires users to register with their mobile numbers.
The registered "Traffic Praharis" can report violations, including dangerous driving, improper parking, and red light jumping, providing necessary details such as date, time, and location. All reports will be verified by Traffic Police headquarters.
The review meeting on the app's revamp was attended by senior officials, including the Special Commissioners of Traffic, the Transport Commissioner, the DTC Chairperson, and other key figures from MCD.
