New Delhi, March 22
Directorate of Enforcement (ED) has provisionally attached six properties worth Rs. 1.76 Crore n connection with its probe into PNB Scam, Vikas Bhawan, Gorakhpur Case under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002.
The attached properties are in the form of agriculture land, house & flat situated at Kanpur, Fatehpur, Gorakhpur and Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.
ED initiated investigation on the basis of FIR registered by Anti-Corruption Branch of CBI, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh under various sections of IPC, 1860 and Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 against Shyama Nand Chaubey and others where amount of Rs 4.4 Crore was misappropriated by the accused persons.
The officials said that the investigation revealed that the then branch manager, Shyama Nand Chaubey and various of the existing account holders got illegal monetary benefits by ways of indulging in parallel banking and opening of fictitious accounts and getting banks money transferred to their accounts illegally. S.N. Chaubey in connivence with other accused misappropriated the government funds under the various government schemes lying in the dummy/collection accounts of the bank and transferred the same in various deposit/ loan accounts of parties, which was subsequently transferred to other accounts or withdrawn in cash by them.
Also, the branch manager issued loans to various persons/ entities without prior approval and without following due procedures. He did so by way of loans, Demand Drafts and account transfers, none of which were duly approved. By doing so, he got kickbacks in the form of bribe/share in the ill approved loans. The manager has duped many of the account holders by transferring money from their accounts without their prior consent.
The officials further informed that the assets worth Rs. 1.76 crores has been provisionally attached by ED and further investigation for finding out the rest of the POC is under progress.
