Five-year-old boy sexually assaulted in Govindpuri of Delhi, massive protests erupt

The five-year-old victim was lured by his neighbour, drugged and then sexually assaulted; he was traced by his family after a few hours of search and taken to the police station

In a disturbing incident, a five-year-old boy was allegedly sexually assaulted by his neighbour in southeast Govindpuri area of Delhi. The incident led to massive protests by locals who surrounded the police station and also blocked a road.

As per the case details, the matter came to light on September 1 after the boy revealed to his parents that he was sexually abused by his neighbour, Balram Das alias Kalu who was later arrested. 

The five-year-old victim was lured by his neighbour, drugged and then sexually assaulted. The boy was then traced by his family after a few hours of search and taken to the police station.

The victim was sent for a medical examination at AIIMS and then taken to a care home in Lajpat Nagar. His statement was recorded before a magistrate later.  The boy told the Child Welfare Committee that the accused inappropriately touched him.

When Balram Das was being taken to the police station, locals gathered in huge numbers and tried to attack the accused and police personnel However, the police managed to take the accused to the police station.

A huge massive crowd gathered at the Govind Puri police station and staged a sit-in, blocking the road, affecting traffic movement. The crowd also raised slogans and refused to budge despite senior officers assuring strict action against the accused. the police called for more deployment and personnel from paramilitary forces to remove the protesters.
