New Delhi, April 16

Goa Police arrested three people for smuggling over 4.3 kg of cocaine concealed in wafer and coffee packets. The seizure is touted to be one of the ‘biggest’ for the contraband in terms of value in the state.

The accused were identified as Manguesh Wadekar, his wife Reshma — both natives of Mormugao’s Sada – and Nibu Vincent, a resident of Baina in Vasco.

The police stated that they acted on a tip-off that said the accused were delivering a consignment of narcotics, following which a crime branch team conducted a raid near Chicolna bus stand in Mormugao and apprehended the trio.

SP (Crime) Goa, Rahul Gupta stated that the accused had concealed the narcotics in 32 packets of wafers and coffee. The initial probe shows that Reshma procured the consignment from someone; and the plan was to sell it in Goa. The drugs are suspected to have been sourced overseas.

Reshma had recently travelled to Thailand and police suspect that the cocaine was sourced from there.
