Goa Police HQ receives IED blast threat mails, turns out to be a hoax

The Goa Police headquarters received a suspicious email threatening of and Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack at the HQ. The threat, sent via email to the office of Director General of Police (DGP), was eventually declared a hoax.
The bomb disposal squad carried out an extensive sweep of the Goa Police headquarters.
In a statement, Goa police said, “At 9:09 am today, an email was received on DGP Goa’s email id about a threat of an IED attack targeting DGP office. Immediately, the security unit and district police were put on high alert. They are conducting checks based on standard operating procedures.”
The email addressed to the office and staff of DGP warned of an IED attack, “orchestrated by international drug cartels in collusion with hostile state actors”.
The email claimed that “Pak ISI cells” and “international cartels” linked to the case have “rigged the DGP office in Goa with sulfur-peroxide IEDs” and that a “detonation” is expected before 3 pm. This is a direct alert. Evacuate immediately. No delays. No discussions. Clear the building now. Deploy bomb scanners – check everything. Walls. Vehicles. Trash. Everything…This is not a drill. Act now,” the purported email read.
The officials said that the cyber-crime unit is investigating “the origin of the email”.
