Gurugram Police and Bihar STF netralize wanted criminal from Bihar in an encounter

The Gurugram Police alongwith Bihar Special Task Force neutralized a wanted criminal from Bihar in an encounter. 

The deceased was identified as Saroj Rai, who carried a Rs 2-lakh reward declared by the Bihar DGP and had been accused of threatening a Bihar MLA and a contractor over a project, besides the 33 cases registered against him since 2012.

ACP (Crime) Varun Dahiya stated that the accused was hiding in Haryana, a joint operation was carried out to arrest Rai. The police acted on intel and set up a checkpoint near Bar Gurjar village on the road leading to Naurangpur. Around midnight, a speeding motorcycle was spotted approaching the checkpoint. He was signalled to stop using reflectors, the driver attempted to evade and took the motorcycle off-road towards a hilly path. The motorcycle slipped and fell, and the two riders, including Rai, started firing indiscriminately at the police while trying to escape. Rai was shot and injured when police retaliated in self-defence". 

The police elaborated that a bullet hit a Bihar Police constable’s left arm, two hit the bulletproof vests of other officers.

Rai was declared dead on arrival due to injuries after being taken to the hospital and the second accomplice managed to escape into the bushes, police added. 

The police said they also seized three pistols, four live cartridges, 17 empty shells, a bullet (coin), and an unregistered KTM 200 motorcycle from the spot.
