Gurugram Police starts ‘Cyber Marshal Group’ with TWA, citizens for cybercrime combat

The cybercrime unit of Gurugram Police have been passing on information, mainly on cyber fraudsters, how they use new tactics daily to deceive people and carry out cyber fraud.

New Delhi, November 23

The Gurugram Police have introduced a ‘Cyber Marshal Group’ with RWA office-bearers and village sarpanches as its members to combat cybercrimes and spread awareness about the same in citizens.

The police have roped in RWA office-bearers and village sarpanches and trained them to spread awareness about cyber crimes, so as to protect people from cyber fraud. 

Addressing village sarpanches and RWA heads, men and women in the 20-65 age group, the cybercrime unit has been passing on information, mainly on cyber fraudsters, how they use new tactics daily to deceive people and carry out cyber fraud.

Some of the issues discussed with the citizens in various awareness sessions include one should never click on links from unknown sources; bank ATM/credit card passwords should be changed regularly; personal banking information should not be shared with anyone; people should avoid searching for customer service numbers for online wine deliveries on Google, as this could make them victims of cyber fraud. 

The police handed out flyers titled “Stock trading scams and how it happens”. “Cyber criminals lure victims by offering high profits, asking them to invest in the stock market, posing as customs or police officers, or claiming that a parcel contains suspicious items and threatening to implicate the person in a case, or asking for money under the pretext of issuing a No-Objection Certificate". 

The also ensured the citizens are aware of Cyber Helpline number 1930 to report crimes immediately.
