New Delhi, March 8
An Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer died after he allegedly fell from the fourth floor of his residence in Chanakyapuri.
The police have identified him as Jitendra Rawat (42), who was staying with his family at the MEA Residential Complex in the Chanakyapuri area.
The police said he was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. At the time of the incident, only the officer’s mother was at home. His wife and children had gone to Dehradun, police added.
Following a preliminary investigation, police suspect it to be a case of suicide. However, a suicide note has not yet been recovered.
Rawat was taking treatment for depression, but the actual cause behind the extreme step will be ascertained only after the probe, police added.
In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said, “The Ministry is providing all possible assistance to the family and is in touch with the Delhi Police. The Ministry stands with the family in this hour of grief and difficulty. Further details are not being released, bearing in mind the need to respect the family’s privacy in this time of bereavement.”
