IPS officer Kala Ramachandran takes over as new Police Commissioner of Gurugram Police

New Delhi, February 14

Gurugram Police will have a new police commission with Kala Ramachandran taking over as the new police Chief. 

The Haryana government’s home department reshuffled 15 police officers announcing Ramachandran as the new Police Commissioner of Gurugram.

The police commissioner KK Rao was transferred with immediate effect late on February 13 night. 

Ramachandran is a 1994 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer. 

Ramachandran was earlier posted as principal secretary, transport department, a cadre post of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) for which theHaryana Government had faced flak. 

Ramchandran’s transfer to an IAS cadre post of transport department had put earlier raised questions of flouting of DoPT rules in Haryana Government however inspite of the opposition she was transferred to the transport department on a post that was meant for an IAS officer. 

Ramachandran has served in the Intelligence Bureau earlier in 2020 and also served as Director, NEPA (North Eastern Police Academy) in the Ministry of Home Affairs. 

Rao had taken charge in Gurgaon on June 30, 2020, in his second tenure as commissioner after he had been in the post for eight months from June 2018 to February 2019. After his first brief stint as the Gurugram police commissioner, he was transferred as Faridabad police commissioner.

Rao has now been transferred as IGP CPT and R at Bhondsi.

Following the present reshuffle, Maqsood Ahmed, who was the deputy commissioner of police (DCP) east in Gurgaon, has been transferred as superintendent of police (SP), Kaithal.

Virender Kumar, who was the SP security-1, CID, in Ambala city, will take charge as the DCP of East Gurgaon. He will also have the additional charges of Mirror Emergency Response Centre (MERC), Gurgaon and as commandant of the 4th battalion of IRB Bhondsi.

IGP (SPF),Satheesh Balan has been given the additional charge of IG (prison).
