New Delhi, August 31
West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose met Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence to discuss the law and order situation in the state in the light of the rape and murder of a Kolkata trainee doctor at RG Kar hospital in Kolkata.
The Governor provided detailed information on the current situation in West Bengal and raised questioned on the security of women and overall law and order in the city.
Following the rape-murder of trainee doctor in RG Kar Medical College, massive protests erupted in Kolkata that later spread in other parts of the country, demanding protection to medical professionals. The body of the woman postgraduate trainee was found in a seminar hall at the hospital on August 9 morning. A civic volunteer, Sanjay Roy, was arrested the next day in connection with the crime.
Last week, Governor CV Ananda Bose also met with President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar to brief them on the RG Kar incident and the subsequent events that unfolded in the state.
The Kolkata Police and hospital administration were criticised for their handling of the trainee doctor's case with the Supreme Court hanging over the probe to CBI.
