Man flogged in Bulandshar on suspicion of theft, four held, UP Police suspends three police officials

New Delhi, June 20

The Bulandshahr Police arrested four persons including a minor, for the alleged public flogging of a of a man over suspicion of mobile phone theft. The police also arrested the victim in an alleged false case for posessing a knife. 

The victim was identified as Sahil Khan (28), a daily wager who paints homes. He was allegedly tied to a tree, beaten up, his head tonsured and forced to chant ‘Jai Shree Ram’. He had reportedly left his house in morning of June 14 to whitewash houses when the accused caught hold of him. 

The police arrested Saurabh Thakur and Gajendra, Dhami, along with a 15-year-old, who shaved the victim’s head on June 18. The minor was sent to a juvenile home.

Bulandshahr SSP Shlok Kumar suspended Sub-Inspector Rajendra Singh and constable Saurabh Kumar and in-charge of the Kakod police station, Amar Singh.

The police reportedly arrested the victim, Sahil Khan, on June 15 after allegedly recovering a knife from his possession. While his family cried foul and produced videos of the assault on him on fake charges, the police allegedly took no action. the police registered a fresh FIR on June 17 when the details of the entire case came to the fore. 

The SSP ordered for a fresh investigation and also ordered an inquiry into the incident by SP Surendra Nath Tiwari.
