New Delhi, April 19
An MBBS student of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH)-32 was found hanging inside her residence in Chandigarh
The victim was 21-years-old who also left a suicide note.
The police said the incident took place in Sector 22 of Chandigarh. The family had recently moved to the house as the victim’s mother, who had retired from the Haryana Vidhansabha recently was allotted this house. The girl's father is a retired teacher.
The police said the student had been living alone in the house for some time, while her parents, along with her elder brother, had shifted to a house in DLF near Chandimandir in Panchkula.
The incident came to light when the girl’s mother visited the residence to check on her. She knocked on the door several times, but did not receive any response. The mother then proceeded to climb on to the roof of the house from where she peeped inside but saw no movement in the house. She called the police control room.
When the police team reached the spot and broke open the front door, they found the student’s body hanging from the hook of a ceiling fan. They also noticed that the wrist of her right hand bore several sharp injury marks and her feet were tied with a piece of cloth.
The police also recovered a ‘suicide note’ from the spot.
In the note, police said, the medical student had not blamed anyone for her extreme step. Instead, she had tendered an apology to her parents for not fulfilling their dreams.
The police said that the initial probe shows that the student had dropped out of the previous semester but was planning to continue her studies from the next semester.
The police however are probing the case from all the angles. They have collected samples of the girl’s handwriting from her notebooks. The note will be sent to CFSL-36 for analysis and will be matched with her handwriting.
The police are also waiting for autopsy report to ascertain the cause of her death and seek details on the injury marks on her body. The police have initiated a probe under Section 174 of CrPC.
