MHA asks states, UTs to not file cases under scrapped section of IT Act

New Delhi, July 15

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has asked state and UT police to direct all police stations to not file cases under the repealed Section 66A of the Information Technology Act 2000.

The states and UTs have also been asked to sensitize law enforcement agencies for the compliance of the order issued by SC on March 2015.

The MHA has also told the police that any case registered under Section 66A of the IT Act should be immediately withdrawn.

The SC in its judgement on March 24, 2015 had struck down Section 66A of the IT Act. 

Hence, the section becomes null and void and no action can be taken on that section, officials from MHA stated.
