MHA shorlisted 150 officials from state police, CBI, IB, NIA and CAPFs for UN police under the United Nations SAAT programme

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), in a latest order related to the United National Selection Assistance exam has issued a list of the officers who will undergo the assessment for this examination. The MHA shortlisted 150 officers with at least 25% of women officers in the team for the UNSAAT 2022-2024. 

The order issued by Monalisa Dash, Director stated that MHA received nomination of 264 officers and 150 officials from various states and UTs, CBI, IB, NIA and CAPFs have been shortlisted for AMS (Assessment of Mission) The AMS was conducted from January 31 to February 7 for these 150 officials while the AMS of remaining candidates would be conducted later. 

The process of the selection of the officer for UNSAAT is happening this year which was scheduled for 2020-2022 which was earlier affected due to the pandemic. It has been rescheduled as UNSAAT 2022-2024. 

The UNSAAT programme is a part of the Permanent Mission of India with the United Nations. The United Nations Police Division works closely with Permanent Missions to the United Nations to find the skilled officers required by mission mandates. 

One SAAT can clear 50 to 800 candidates and each candidate that passes is cleared for 24 months for deployment with United Nations Police. 

As per the UNSAAT rules, the assessment for mission service addresses the following areas: language skills, driving skills, firearms handling and shooting skills, computer skills, knowledge of United Nations principles and standards, core values, and mission-specific skills.

Following the assessment, a briefing is provided to the candidate on the process leading up to possible deployment with United Nations Police. Only if the candidates pass each test, are they eligible for deployment with United Nations police.

The list of the 150 officers issued by the MHA include 66 male officers and 36 female officers who have been freshly short listed for the AMS and another 48 officers including four females who were earlier shortlisted will be also sent for UNSAT this year.

The officers this year were asked to compulsorily get their RT-PCR tests conducted with the negative test report and appear at the IBP Battalion UN CIVPOL at Tigri Camp with two sets uniforms, individual PPE kits, identity cards and 9mm pistols with 25 rounds. 

Madhya Pradesh Police tops the list with 11 officials shortlisted for the programme including SP Pranay Kumar Nagvanshi and two additional SPs- Anjana Tiwari and Irmeen Shah. The shortlisted team from MP Police includes six women officials. 

Three officials from NIA and five from CBI have been shortlisted. Four officers from Intelligence Bureau including one woman officer have been selected. 

Five male officers each from BSF, CRPF, SSB, CISF and ITBP with offices of the commandants have been shortlisted while RPF has five officials selected and ITBP has only one shortlisted. 

There are five shortlisted officers from Punjab Police including SP Jatinder Singh Khaira, five officers from Himachal Pradesh including Additional SPs-Praveen Dhiman and Dinesh Kumar alongwith three women constables. 

The Chandigarh Police have six women officials of Inspectors and Sub Inspector ranks shortlisted for the program and similarly all six shortlisted officials from Sikkim Police are female officials including ASP Eden Subba and additional SPs- Ambika Subba and Alkamit Tamang. 

Nine officers from Telangana Police including two additional SPs- Shree Bala Devi and B Raja Mahendra Naik have been selected while five have been selected from Andhra Pradesh Police. 

Five officers including one female officer has been selected from Karnataka Police and Kerala Police respectively with SP Mohd Arif. 

While maintaining the rule of having 25% of women officers, eight officers have been selected from Maharashtra Police which include four women officials.  

Seven officials have been shortlisted from Rajasthan Police where the ratio of women officers is higher than male officials with one additional SP Vandana Bhati in the team. 

Only two state police forces from North East states have been shortlisted. Five officers from Mizoram Police including one woman official and three are male officials from Meghalaya Police. 

Six officers including two women officials have been shortlisted from Jammu and Kashmir Police including SSP Jantinder Singh Johar and SP Rajni Sharma while five officers have been shortlisted from Uttarakhand Police with IPS officer Dherendar Singh Gunjyal including. 

UP Police have five male inspectors shortlisted while Delhi Police has three male police officials shortlisted for the programme. 

Meanwhile, West Bengal Police and Haryana Police have three male inspectors respectively or the same.
