Mumbai Police arrests four persons in connection with death of gangster Sumit Yerunkar

New Delhi, December 26
The Mumbai police arrested four people in connection to the death of local gangster Sumit Yerunkar and injuring four others including an eight-year-old girl during indicriminate firing in Chunabhatti area.
Those injured are the gangster’s aides Roshan Lokhande (30) and Aakash Khandagle (31) and passersby Madam Patil (54) and Trisha Sharma (8). They were all admitted to the Sion Hospital.
The arrested accused have been identified as Sunil alias Sunny Patil, Sagar Sawant, Naresh Patel, Ashutosh Gavan; all have criminal records. Sunny Patil and Sumit Yerunkar had worked together but fell out with each other later.
As per the case details, the accused some of whom are still absconding had fired 21 rounds in the Chunabhatti area that resulted in the killing of Sumit alias Pappu Yerunkar and injured three others including a mino girl.
Yerunkar was arrested in 2016 for opening fire at the office of Arihant Builders but was acquitted earlier this year.
The incident was a fallout of a rivalry between two gangs operating in the eastern suburbs of the city, police added.
