A 71-year-old resident of Greater Noida was defrauded of approximately Rs 35 lakh by cybercriminals who lured him in the name of stock market investments. The Noida police have restored Rs. 18 lakhs so far with its investigation.
The cybercell of Noida Police probed the case and found that the accused used a fake share market app to lure the victims.
Last month, the Noida Police had arrested as many as 12 individuals from an unauthorised call centre for allegedly scamming foreigners by falsely offering them antivirus software from reputable companies. Following a raid at the call centre, authorities confirmed the seizure of 14 desktops and other related items.
The arrests were made on April 4 from the second-floor office of a building situated in C block of Sector 2, officials said.
