Youth who were the most affected by the Covid 19 pandemic had a rainbow after a storm when Delhi Police organized a job fair giving work opportunities to hundreds of youngsters from Delhi. 375 youth were offered jobs from 24 various companies in the national capital.
BW Policeworld spoke with the youth who bagged jobs recently on their experience of participating in the job fair organized by Delhi Police West District under the Yuva Skill Development Programme, a joint inititive of Skill India and Delhi Police that is designed to provide opportunities to youth from financially weak backgrounds and those who brushed with law in their lives.
The Delhi Police carried out extensive research to find youth who are school dropouts, juvenile offenders, victims of crimes and those whose families in a dire state due to the incarceration of the bread earner of the family.
Sanjeev Tayde (20) works as a lab technician at Genetix Biotech Asia Pvt Ltd. He enrolled for the Yuva scheme through Kirti Nagar police station.
Sanjeev said, “I am working for a lab in the city which is doing Covid 19 tests. I started as a receptionist however I took up courses and learnt the job hands and become a technician now. I belong to a middle class family and my salary supports several at home now, specially my father”.
Sanjeev’s father is an electrician who barely manages a few thousands a month while Sanjeev earns Rs. 15,000 a month as income. Sanjeev is also trying to finish his graduation.
Gagan Narnoliya who is a class 12th dropout works at Universal digital X Ray Laboratory as lab assistant.
Gagan said, “I was an unemployed youth and I ran pillar to post to get a job. When I heard that Delhi Police is providing a job opportunity, I immediately enrolled for it. I am the bread winner of the family and I am proudly supporting my younger sister’s education too”.
He added, “I am thoroughly happy with my job and the fact that I am a salaried employee now. I will keep adding skills and rise at higher position in my career”.
Similarly, Heena Rai is working as a sales consulant at DJT Coporation and Investments Pvt Ltd with a salary of Rs. 30,000 and Priya Jaiprakash is working in the same company at the same post and pay scale. While Heena’s father is a construction labourer, Priya’s family has four sisters. Priya learnt about the Yuva scheme through Punjabi Bagh police station and took training in a retail course before taking up this job.
Similarly, Priya Singh enrolled for the Yuva scheme and now her father Arvind Singh and she started their own start up ‘Gurukripa Groceries and Dairy’ and stated that they earn Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 30,000 a month.
The police stations of Kirti Nagar, Rajouri Garden and Punjabi Bagh had tied up with IACT Education to give a platform to youngsters to train themselves in retail, tourism and hospitality, health care and electronic sector.
Ravi Kant who is a now mobile hardware technician said, “We wanted a platform to learn and get job. We come from families that cannot support our education which Delhi Police aided. After receiving that particular training, we importantly got jobs of our skills. The fact that we get to live a life of dignity is what makes me happy”.
The Delhi Police has been actively working to train and provide jobs to youth in Delhi to ensure they do not get misled to crimes. Yuva scheme has helped many such youth.
While providing jobs to unemployed youth, Delhi Police found many youth who brushed with law as they were in dire need of money. Some were caught in low profile crimes while others were reportedly found in harmful habits. However, with the support of Delhi Police, they found respectful jobs.
DCP West Urvija Goel stated that the youth who also came from all backgrounds were offered jobs in reputed companies who have hired them with full trust and knowing their backgrounds. Those youth are working well and earning for their families now.
The officials stated that it takes efforts to contacts high profile companies to gather at a platform and interview the aspirants and provide jobs. The officials added that the companies of various sectors participated and trusted the youth presented to them by Delhi Police.
While the Yuva scheme ensures skilled training for youth with the ulterior objective to provide them employment under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana which was started by then Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in 2017. The West District has managed to provide education to 2130 students out of which 1600 have got jobs. Out of these 1600 now employed youth, 780 are girls while 820 are boys.
As per the details with Delhi Police, there are 21 Yuva centres in Delhi that provide 45 types of skill training and 2692 youth have been placed so far. While the youth could bring bread to their family, the Delhi Police are consistently working to find more such youngsters who are ready to get trained to get jobs in future.
