New Delhi, January 24
The Punjab police arrested a man in Ropar who allegedly killed a woman by pushing her into Bhakhra canal. The accused claimed that he was posted in the Counter Intelligence (CI) Wing of Punjab Police which the police are verifying.
The accused was identified as Yuvraj Singh who claimed to be a cop with CI in Mohali. The victim had done her BSc from Chandigarh and was currently taking coaching from an institute in Chandigarh to become an air hostess. She was staying in a rented accommodation in Sector 123, Mohali.
The preliminary investigation indicated that the accused is married and was in a relationship with the victim. The accused wanted to get rid of the victim as his wife was returning to India from abroad.
The victim’s family, which hails from Bilaspur district in Himachal Pradesh, told police that Yuvraj Singh is a police personnel and was posted in the Counter Intelligence (CI) Wing of Punjab Police in Mohali.
The victim went missing on the night of January 20 following which her elder sister lodged a complaint. The complainant stated that her sister had gone to meet Yuvraj, but her cell phone was found to be switched off when she tried to reach out to her. The victim’s sister told the police that the accused was threatening her that he would make her videos viral.
The police probe shows that the accused met the victim on the night of January 20 and took her to a bridge on Bhakhra canal in Pathreri Jattan village where he pushed her into the canal. On January 22, the victim’s body was fished out by the divers near Passiana bridge in Patiala district.
