Rape accused dies in police custody in Noida, Noida CP suspends entire outpost

The victim's brother alleged that the police personnel demanded Rs. 5 lakhs and he paid Rs. 50,000 to police, Rs. 1000 for liquor expenses and before he could arrange for the remaining sum, his brother was found hanging

New Delhi, May 17

A youth accused of rape allegedly hanged himself at a police post in Greater Noida amid huge hue and cry of policemen seeking bribe of Rs. 5 lakhs from the victim's family to let him off. 

The incident was reported from the Chipiyana Buzurg post, which comes under the Bisrakh police station of Gautam Buddh Nagar district.

Noida Police Commissioner Laxmi Singh has suspended all the personnel posted at the outpost. The commissioner has also ordered a probe into the matter. She said an investigation has also been launched against the police station's in-charge and the assistant police commissioner.

DCP II Suniti stated that a woman working in a company located near Chipiyana village had accused the man, her colleague, of rape. She had complained to the Superintendent of police (Lucknow) in this regard.The  investigation team came to Noida from Lucknow and, as part of its probe, it had called the accused to the post for questioning on May 16 morning. 

He was made to sit outside and the team left the spot and added that there was only a woman constable there. During this time, the man went inside the post, closed the door of a room and allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the fan. 

He was taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead. A panel of doctors performed the postmortem and it has been videographed.

The victim's family cried fould and told media that the outpost personnel had demanded Rs. 5 lakhs of money from the family to settle the case. The brother of the victim paid Rs. 50,000 to the policemen at night and Rs. 1000 for liquor. He was waiting outside the police outpost all night and was to arrange the remaining sum next day morning. However, the man accused of rape was found hanging in the outpost. 

His brother also added that the woman had falsely accused him of rape and that she was responsible for his death.

A large number of people gathered at the mortuary in Sector-94 and raised slogans against the police.

The police have however not filed any complaint in this matter. The police informed that the FIR will be registered after receiving a complaint from the bereaved family.
