New Delhi, May 5

The security forces have found a militant hideout, from where they seized weapons and other items, in the border district of Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir.

The search, conducted jointly by the Army and the Special Operations Group of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, was carried out after security forces received specific intelligence.

During a search operation in forest area of Surankote, the forces have seized five improvised explosive devices and two wireless sets were among things recovered from the hideout.

All the IEDs, weighing between 0.5 kg and 5 kg, were destroyed in a controlled explosion on the spot, the officials said.

In addition, the officials said two wireless sets, five packets containing urea, one five-litre gas cylinder, one pair of binoculars, three woolen caps, three blankets, some trousers and utensils were recovered from the hideout.

The searches come amid an intensified crackdown in the aftermath of the terrorist attack in south Kashmir’s Pahalgam last month, in which 25 tourists and one local man were killed.
