Senior citizen of Mumbai cheated by a fraudster who impersonated as telecom service

New Delhi, December 15
A cyber-fraudster impersonating a telecom service executive cheated senior citizen in Mumbai of Rs 3.53 lakhs.
The police said the victim is 77-years-old who lives with his wife and grandson.
The police stated that the victim was cheated by the fraudster who first sent him a text message on his phone
that his SIM card was going to get blocked.
The worried man called up on the fraudster’s number when the accused began cheating him. The unaware victim first downloaded a remote access application that enables a third party to view mobile activities.
The fraudster then asked him to send Rs 11 for recharging his mobile.
The accused was able to access the banking details because of the remote application and used it to generate One Time Passwords (OTP) for nine transactions.
The officials added that the accused with the help of the OTPs looted Rs 3.53 lakhs from the victim’s account. The police have registered an FIR and begun investigation to identify the cheat.
