UP Government passes an ordinance to prevent incidents of paper leaks

If a person is found guilty of a paper leak, they could face life imprisonment and a fine of up to Rs 1 crore

New Delhi, June 27

The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet cleared an ordinance to prevent incidents of paper leaks and use of unfair means in exams. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath chaired the meeting where the state Cabinet gave its nod to the ordinance.

According to the ordinance, if a person is found guilty of a paper leak, they could face life imprisonment and a fine of up to Rs 1 crore.

In case the examination is affected by the paper leak, the expenses incurred on it will be recovered from the solver gangs. A "solver gang" is a group of people that leaks examination papers and also provides proxy candidates who will appear for the examination. The companies and service providers who are involved in the exam malpractices will be blacklisted for life, the ordinance further mentioned.

Previously, the UPPSC RO ARO (review officer/assistant review officer) examination on March 2 was cancelled due to a paper leak. The examination was cancelled a week after the UP Police constable exam was also cancelled for the same reasons.

The country is presently witnessing massive outrage on the UGC-NET and NEET exam paper leak, which is being probed by the CBI after an organized crime network was seen behind the paper leak.

The ordinance cleared by the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet is likely to be tabled next month in the state legislative assembly.
