UP Police forms a SIT to probe Atiq Ahmed, brother Ashraf death in shootout

New Delhi, April 18
The Uttar Pradesh Police have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the shootout that killed gangster Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf who were shot dead in presence of police security and media.
The UP CM Yogi Adityanath had ordered for formation of a three member judicial committee to probe the incident that has already begun to look into the case. The Commission is headed by Justice (retired) Arvind Kumar Tripathi. Former DGP Subesh Kumar Singh and former district judge Brijesh Kumar Soni are its members.
UP DGP RK Vishwakarma has formed a SIT to probe the shootout in details. The three-member SIT will be headed by Assistant Deputy Commissioner of Police Satish Chandra, who will be assisted by ACP (Kotwali police station) Satyendra Prasad Tiwari and Inspector (Investigation Cell of Crime Branch) Om Prakash.
The special team of supervisors, on the other hand, will be headed by Additional Director General (Prayagraj Zone) Bhanu Bhaskar. The two other members of the team of supervisors are the Director of a Forensic Science Laboratory and the Police Commissioner of Prayagraj.
Praygraj CP Ramit Sharma stated that the supervising officers have been also appointed to ensure impartial and qualitative investigation by the SIT.
Meawhile, the Prayagraj police moved the three assialnts of the shootout from from Naini Central Jail to Pratapgarh district jail. It is to be noted that one of the sons of Atiq Ahmed , Ali Ahmed is currently lodged at Naini Central Jail
The police probe so far shows that accused Lavlesh Tiwari (22), Mohit alias Sunny Puraney (23) and Arun Kumar Maurya (18) were found to be knowing each other since long. The accused had pre planned the attack and arrived with Turkey made sophisticated weapons. Two days before the shootout, the accused got down at Prayagraj railway station and believes to have been put up in a lodge outside the station.
