New Delhi, July 29
The three deaths of UPSC aspirants due to water logging and flooding inside the coaching centre in Karol Bagh has brought to a the fore a complaint of a a civil service aspirant with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) about the basement of coaching centres being illegally used as libraries and study centres. However, no action was taken on his complaint.
The student, Kishor Singh Kushwah, filed a complaint on June 26 against several coaching centres in Old Rajinder Nagar and South Patel Nagar areas for illegally operating coaching classes and a library in basements. Rau's IAS Study Circle, where the incident took place, was included in his list.
When the MCD didn't respond, he filed a complaint again on July 15 and July 22 and stated that it was an "urgent issue" and "immediate action" was required. However, the civic body failed to take any action.
In the wake of the deadly flooding incident, the MCD on Sunday sealed 13 coaching centres in the Old Rajinder Nagar area that were found violating rules.
Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi told media that a team from the civic body conducted searches at several coaching centres in the area and sealed institutes that were running “commercial activities”
