Woman constable found dead inside Nagapattinam District Collector’s office in Tamil Nadu

New Delhi, May 26

A woman police constable was found dead with a gunshot wound inside the Nagapattinam District Collector’s office on May 25. 

She was identified as Abhinaya (29), a resident of Manakudi in Mayiladuthurai district, who was serving in the Armed Reserve. Abhinaya was posted as an armed guard. 

The police stated that she had reported for night duty at the Collectorate on May 24 night accompanied by another woman constable. At around 6 am on May 25, a gunshot was reportedly heard from the premises. The other constable on duty rushed to the spot and found Abhinaya lying on the floor, bleeding from a gunshot wound to the left side of her neck.

Senior police officials, including the Armed Reserve Deputy Superintendent of Police and an Inspector, arrived at the scene and began preliminary inquiries. Abhinaya’s body was sent to the Nagapattinam District Government Hospital for post-mortem examination.

The police stated that the motive behind the shooting is under probe.
