Air Canada Flight Bomb Threat-Delhi Police detain minor who just wanted to have "fun"

The email was traced and police found a 13-year-old boy who sent a threat mail to IGI Airport after he saw news of similar bomb threat at Mumbai airport

New Delhi, June 12

The Delhi Police traced a 13-year-old boy who sent a threat mail to the Delhi Airport on June 4 threatening that an Air Canada flight (AC43) from Delhi to Toronto had a bomb on it. Although it was a hoax, the email had led to minor chaos and huge search operations by several authorities.

The Delhi police were probing the case and tracked down the email. The mail was sent from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh. When the police went to Meerut and launched a search operation, it was revealed that this mail had been sent by a 13-year-old boy.

The boy eventually old the police that he got the idea of sending the email after seeing in the media the bomb call for a Mumbai flight. He wanted to see whether the police would be able to trace his mail or not. He had given this threat only 'for fun'.

The police stated that the boy created a fake email ID on his phone and used the internet through his mother's phone and sent this mail. After sending the email, he deleted it. The next morning, he saw on TV that news about a bomb call at the Delhi airport was running. Upon seeing the news running on TV, he got scared and refrained from telling even his family members that it was doing.

The police have seized the child's phone and are counselling him. The child was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board before being handed over back to his parents.
