Ajit Doval appointed as the NSA for the third time in Modi 3.0 cabinet

During the term of his office, Doval will be assigned the rank of Cabinet Minister and the terms and conditions of his appointment will be notified separately

New Delhi, June 13

The Modi 3.0 cabinet has appointed National Security Advisor Ajit Doval for the third time under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi. 

The Appointment Committee of Cabinet approved the appointment of Ajit Doval as the National Security Advisor with effect from 10 June 2024.

The order stated, ""The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Shri Ajit Doval, lPS (Retired) as National Security Adviser with effect from 10.06.2024. His appointment will be co-terminus with the term of the Prime Minister or until further orders, whichever is earlier. During the term of his office, he will be assigned the rank of Cabinet Minister in the Table of Precedence".

A 1968 batch IPS officer, Doval is a renowned counter-terrorism expert and an expert on nuclear issues. Doval has served in Punjab as IB's operational chief.

Doval, a 1968 batch IPS officer, was first appointed as National Security Advisor to the PM on May 31, 2014.

Born on January 20, 1945, in Uttarakhand's Pauri Garhwal, Doval joined the Indian Police Service (IPS) in 1968 and received the Kirti Chakra in 1988 for his distinguished services. Doval was the youngest officer to receive the Indian Police Medal.

The post of NSA was created for the first time in 1998 when nuclear tests were conducted for the second time in the country.
