New Delhi, December 26
The Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police arrested two more persons with alleged links to Al-Qaeda affiliate Ansarullah Bangla Team.
The duo were identified as Abdul Zaher Sheikh and Sabbir Mirdha, from Kokrajhar district.
The police stated that with their arrest a major terror incident has been averted.
As per the case details, on December 19, the Assam police arrested eight people, including a Bangladeshi national from Assam, West Bengal and Kerala. The arrests were made following a tip off from Md Sad Radi, a Bangladeshi national. The accused were sent to India under the direction of Jasimuddin Rahmani, Chief of Ansarullah Bangla Team.
The Assam Police posted on X saying, “In continuation of Operation Praghat, STF Assam and Kokrajhar Police averted a major terror act that the ABT/AQIS Cell was preparing to perpetrate. Two jihadi cadres were arrested and a large cache of arms and war-like stores was seized”.
They further added that Items retrieved from a discovered hideout include four homemade guns and a ready-to-use improvised explosive device (IED), accompanied by explosive materials like circuits of detonators, electronic switches, iron cases for making IEDs, iron pieces and plates.
