The BSF informed that the 145 Battalion at ICP Petrapole on the India-Bangladesh international border in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal stopped a suspicious woman during routine passenger screening for those entering India from Bangladesh. Upon scanning her with a metal detector, jawans detected presence of metal in her wrists.

A thorough search revealed that she was wearing three gold bangles in each hand. On being questioned, the woman neither provided any satisfactory explanation nor produced any documents related to the gold. Consequently, she was taken into custody. During further interrogation, she claimed that the gold bangles were a gift from her husband, added officials.

However, upon testing the purity of the gold bangles, it was found to be 99.76% pure—a level of purity rarely used in jewelry. The total weight of the seized gold was 103.090 grams with an estimated market value of Rs. 8,82,966. She further revealed that she hails from Comilla district in Bangladesh and was traveling to Kolkata, West Bengal under the pretense of seeking medical treatment. However due to the swift action and vigilance of BSF jawans, her smuggling attempt was thwarted and she was arrested on the spot. The accused along with the seized gold has been handed over to the concerned authorities for further legal proceedings.
