New Delhi, January 31

A woman constable at border outpost Kutadah of 88th Battalion Aradhapur under Malda Sector of Border Security Force (BSF) South Bengal Frontier foiled the nefarious intentions of smugglers at the Indo-Bangladesh international border in West Bengal by displaying vigilance, courage and devotion to duty.

The BSF stated that the swift action and sharp decision-making of the mahila constable forced 5-6 suspected Bangladeshi smugglers to flee as they attempted to breach the border fence and infiltrate India.

The officials elaborated January 29, a woman constable was on duty when she noticed 5-6 suspected smugglers armed with sharp-edged weapons advancing towards the border fence from Bangladesh side. Reacting instantly, she alerted her colleagues and warned the approaching smugglers. Despite her warning, the smugglers continued to move forward aggressively.

The officials said without any fear she ran towards the smugglers and warned them for the second time. Despite this the smugglers reached near the fence to carry out their nefarious intentions and tried to damage it. Realizing the gravity of the situation and their intentions, she fired one round from her weapon.

Hearing the gunfire and sensing the unwavering resolve of the woman personnel  the smugglers panicked and managed to flee by seizing the cover of darkness and thick fog. After the incident, a thorough search of the area was carried out but no suspicious object was found. The possibility of any smuggler being injured in the firing cannot be ruled out, officials further added.
